BabyHawk Carrier Review

I purchased my babyhawk through alongfortheride and received excellent customer service with getting a customized babyhawk. Babyhawk is an awesome carrier called a mei tai, which is a traditional chinese baby carrier that uses a waist strap and shoulder straps along with a panel of fabric to hold your baby. They are much more comfortable and longer-useage than a carrier like a snugli or bjorn because of where the straps distribute your child’s weight and how they are made. I wear my 7 month old son, who is over 20 pounds daily around my home while doing chores and while out shopping and he feels almost weightless (not so true when I’m trying to juggle him in my arms!). This works great for the times of day when he’s fussy and wants held but I’m trying to finish up a task around the house or do something with my older children (ages 4 and 2). He often falls asleep in it! I have also carried my 2 year old in my mei tai while out when she can’t keep up or walk any longer (like trick or treating recently).

Features of the babyhawk that I love: The headrest which helps support a younger baby’s head when they are sleeping but also easily folded down for an older child or for baby to see out easier. The one I selected is reversible– I have a fun hula girl print on one side, and a pretty floral kimono print on the other side so I can have a dressier side. You can also order one side plain so that it’s just a solid color if dad doesn’t like any of the prints and wants to carry baby too (I tell you there’s nothing sexier than a husband wearing a baby while cooking dinner!) I ordered extra long straps so both my husband and I can do a lexie twist (a particular style of tying the straps) easily. I have the chocolate twill which is buttery soft– no rough canvas feel to this carrier at all! It folds down reasonably compact for in a diaper bag or stuffed under a seat while out. The straps also work well for an impromptu seatbelt on a highchair at a restaurant, cushioning behind a baby’s head, the panel works great as an extra blanket, sunshade, and more!

Only con…. I’m not rich so I can’t afford an entire wardrobe of babyhawks to match everything I have. :o)
