Can you wear a newborn in a BabyHawk Mei Tai?
Yes, you can wear a newborn in a BabyHawk Mei Tai! Some babies in fact prefer the mei tai over a sling or pouch. The upright position provided by a mei tai is particularly helpful for babies with reflux issues.
Does the BabyHawk Mei Tai have good head support?
The BabyHawk Mei Tai regular body has ample head support for a newborn. As your child gets bigger you will be able to snuggle them down far enough in the body of the carrier to keep their head supported. We do offer an optional headrest for an additional $10. This can help provide support for babies less head control or for babies who fall asleep in the carrier. When not in use it can be folded down.
How do I wash my BabyHawk?
You can wash your BabyHawk on cold with just a little detergent (try putting it in a large lingerie bag or pillowcase to avoid it getting wrapped around the agitator or the straps all twisted) and then line dry. You CAN machine dry but your colors will stay brighter and more vibrant if you line dry.
How wide are the BabyHawk Mei Tai straps and are they padded?
The straps are 3 3/4 inches wide and the straps are lightly padded to give you enough cushion for a long comfortable ride!
What are the differences between the Kozy Carrier and the BabyHawk Mai Tais?
The BabyHawk and the Kozy are two of the most supportive mei tais out there, even with the heaviest babies. The main differences are body size (Kozy has a wider, taller body) and construction (Kozy has a single main piece of fabric for the body, which the BabyHawk is “framed”). With the BabyHawk, you get a lot of support , without a lot of fabric, which is great for petite babies, or babies who like to have their arms out of the carrier a lot of the time. The optional headrest on the BabyHawk is there for those times when the baby ends up sleeping back there and you want some extra support for their head.
The Kozy is one of the first modern mei tais, and is one of the most popular brands that I know of. The larger body on the Kozy is great for babies who like to snuggle down and sleep in the carrier a lot. The taller body provides nice head support. (Although you can roll the bottom of the Kozy to make the body shorter when you need to.) A lot of people like Kozys for newborns because they are deeper and wider, so the baby is supported with more fabric.
I won’t get into the minutae of shoulder strap angles, padding styles, strap lengths, etc here (although there are some great forums out there if you really want to get down to the nitty-gritty). I will say that they’re both great carriers, made by great mom-owned businesses, and you can’t go wrong with either one!
What are the different BabyHawk body sizes you offer and the differences between them?
We have two options for our carriers: You can have the regular body (16.5 wide x 18.5 tall), or you can order a BabyHawk with an optional headrest.
The headrest can be used up or down. When the headrest is up, the carrier is 3″ taller than the regular body size. Many people prefer to have this option for their baby. I suggest choosing the headrest if you plan on using your BabyHawk with a newborn or if you like having your baby sleep on your back often — it will give him proper head support.
Most older babies would rather be able to see out easily and have their arms out of the top of the carrier, which is easily done in the regular body size.
What is the weight limit of the carrier?
You can wear your child from newborn to 40 lbs, or as long as you can comfortably carry them.
What size wearer does the BabyHawk Mei Tai fit up to?
The BabyHawk Mei Tai can fit up to a women’s size 22/24 or a men’s XXL.
