Best Baby Carriers For Warm Weather. Top Picks for Summertime Babywearing

Here are our top picks for carriers for all of your summertime babywearing needs:

All-Around Summertime Carriers: Solarveil Fabrics

One of my favorite fabrics for summertime babywearing is solarveil. This is a specially woven mesh fabric that is very breathable, dries quickly, and has built-in sun protection (double layered solarveil blocks 90-95 of the UV rays). Because it dries so quickly, it is a popular choice for wearing in the pool or at the beach. A lot of people like it as an all around summer carrier, too, because the mesh fabric is so lightweight and breathable, and because it provides such great sun protection.

If you are a pouch fan, make sure to check out the solarveil pouches from Hotslings. This year’s Hotslings pouches come in 3 delicious colors: khaki, sky blue, and pink.

Zolowear also makes ring slings from the solarveil fabric. These are one of my favorite summertime slings, particularly for tiny babies. It’s a cool and lightweight sling, and the tail of the sling can be draped over the baby as an extra sunshade or nursing cover-up. The tails also have a handy built-in pocket.

We have also just added some wonderful solarveil mei tais from Sachi Carriers. Since mei tais are two-shouldered carriers, they distribute the weight of the baby very well, and can be comfortable for longer wearing. The Sachi solarvei mei tais also come with a roomy hood, to keep the sun off baby’s head.

In the Water

Swimming pools are finally open and the beaches are beckoning. We have a lot of different baby carrier options that allow you to take your baby right into the water with you. Solarveil mesh pouches, mei tais and slings dry quickly and provide some extra sun protection (in, and out of the water. We also have mei tais from a fabric called solarweave. This is a smoother fabric than solarveil (not unlike nice men’s swim trunks), which has sunscreen woven into the fabric. It’s not as breathable as the solarveil, but a lot of parents like the softer texture of the fabric. Finally, for the wrap fans, the Gypsy Mama water wrap is a must-have for the beach, shower, or pool.

Sun Protection

If you plan on spending any time outside with your baby, you know that sun protection is critical (particularly for babies under 6 months old who are too young for sunscreen). Slings and baby carriers constructed from solarveil fabric let you enjoy the summer sun while protecting your child from its harmful rays.

We also have an innovative new product that is perfect wherever the summer days take you. Whether your child is traveling in a car seat, stroller or soft baby carrier, the Peekaru Ozone’s pattented Solarveil fabric blocks 70-80% of UVA and UVB rays.

The Ozone lets you and your child comfortably and safely enjoy warm sunny days, by letting the cool breeze in while keeping the sun’s harmful rays out. Take your baby outside with confidence and enjoy the sunny summer weather, and end those blanket-tucking frustrations forever.

Cool and Comfortable Summer Wraps

There are also some nice lightweight wraps that are great for warm weather. Both the Gypsy Mama Bali Baby Breeze and the Ellaroo Wraps are very light and breathable. The Gypsy Mama Bali Baby Breeze is a light weight gauze wrap, hand-batiked in Indonesia. It is very breathable and comes in gorgeous colors and patterns. The Ellaroo Wraps are made from a lightweight woven Guatemalan fabric. Both of these wraps have very little stretch. The advantage to the less stretchy wraps is that they are more supportive, so you can safely do carries (such as the rucksack) that cover you and the baby with less fabric.

Carriers for Hiking

If the summer weather has you hitting the mountain trails, you’ll want a comfortable and supportive carrier for long walks over rugged terrain. We have two backpack-inspired carriers that are just perfect for hiking. These carriers are sturdy enough to carry a tired preschooler in total comfort. These carriers have padded waist belts that help to take some of the baby’s weight off your shoulders. The shoulder straps are also well-padded for extra comfort with even the heaviest of babies. With their rugged styling and clips and buckles, the Ergo Baby Carrier is a seriously Dad-friendly option. For parents who like a more streamlined look, or more color options, the Beco baby carrier is just the thing.
