Best Dad Baby Carriers. Premaxx Baby-Bag A Great Daddy Sling
Premaxx Baby-Bag New Edition Baby Carrier
Pros
Safe, secure, comfortable for baby and wearer, good looking
Cons
Not adjustable enough for smaller men, or probably most women
The Bottom Line
An excellent sling-style baby carrier that’s perfect for daddy’s — easy to use, comfortable, good looking. Baby and dad will both love it.
I’ve used this sling with my son since he came home from the hospital — nine weeks now. I take him for a daily three-mile walk, and frequent trips to the grocery and department stores.
That said, I haven’t encountered many of the problems raised by some of the negative posters here. I find this product easy to use and have absolutely no safety concerns about it. My son loves riding in it, and is almost instantly asleep as soon as I start walking. No troubles getting him in or out. I find it to be very comfortable, even for long periods of time. The outer pockets are nice, too — but only for keys or your cell phone (and maybe one emergency diaper!).
To me it seems that many of the negative opinions here may stem from failure to wear/use this sling properly (e.g., the sling does have to be adjusted correctly before first use; as a matter of practice, the main body of the sling needs to be positioned on the “ball” of your shoulder, hanging across your chest fairly high up; and per the instructions, the cords which adjust the sling’s opening do have to be tied to guarantee that the adjustment sliders can’t give under weight).
I’ll grant, however, that this is not the sling for most women and smaller framed men (I’m 5′ 11′ with a fairly large build and, to wear it correctly as shown in the instructions, I have this sling adjusted about as small as it can go!).
Can’t vouch for how it’ll work as a hip hammock, but as a baby carrier I feel it’s been worth every penny so far. The ability to go for walks around the neighborhood, go shopping, etc. with my son and keep my hands free at the same time has been a real joy.
And I do get favorable comments on its looks from those who realize it’s a baby carrier. Most people just assume it’s a messenger bag of some sort (I’ve even been asked to “please check your bag, sir” when entering some stores until I show them that I’ve got a baby on board!)
